Tim and I just celebrated our 10th Wedding anniversary! Ten wonderful, crazy, challenging, adventurous, love-filled, happy years. Our motto: Pursuing God’s Delicious Unknown, has taken us more places, doing more things, experiencing more changes than we ever would have dreamt. And that was even before we chose that motto for our lives. Actually, I think it chose us!!! (That’s another story for another time…)
For example: 11 years ago, when I went over to Hawaii to see if I wanted to start a more serious relationship with Tim, little did I know we would have marriage counseling even before our first date! Yes, you read that correctly. Living on two different land masses, me a continent way up north and him an island in the middle of the Pacific, left little possibilities for traditional dating. Once arriving in Hawaii there was little chance as I didn’t come alone. A good friend from Edmonton, Lorenz, came with me. Because it was his first vacation since childhood, we wanted to make it the best experience for him possible. Therefore, the three of us traipsed all over Hawaii together and had the time of our lives!
Since we anticipated that marriage was in our future, we decided to go talk to Tim’s pastor for premarital counseling. Pastor Stan had us take a personality and spiritual gifts test and asked us a lot of questions. His conclusion, due to our personalities being so introverted and laid back, we would take forever to decide anything, especially when to get married. We were happy to prove him wrong when 6 months later we were married.
So, here we are just passing the 10-year mark and very grateful to God for where He has led us thus far. Our special day was celebrated at the Ark Encounter, in Kentucky. We have wanted to go there ever since we visited the Creation Museum 9 years ago. At that time the Ark was still in the planning stages.
The Ark was fascinating. This full-size Noah’s Ark according to the dimensions given in the Bible, the set-up and possibilities of what it may have looked like, really brought the Bible account to life. Yes, there were dinosaurs on the Ark! The Ark was the source of salvation for Noah, his family and around 7,000 animals when God passed judgement on the earth to destroy everything because “The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Genesis 6:5 ESV). Noah, his family and the animals had to enter the Ark through the door to be saved. Today, as in Noah’s day, there remains only one source of Salvation, the person and work of Jesus Christ.
Not only did we get to see the inside of the ark, we also experienced the flood through virtual reality, watched videos on a variety of information about the ark, walked around the grounds and rode a camel. Well, I got to ride a camel and his name was Moses.
The Ark was amazing, but not as amazing as experiencing God’s continuing grace when we learned our motor home’s return was once again delayed. The Saga of God’s goodness as we pursue God’s delicious unknown continues.
Blessings, Mari
